WHOLE LIFE CHALLENGE
LIFESTYLE CATEGORY SWITCH - INTENTIONAL ACTS OF KINDNESS
by Michael Stanwyck
So it turns out that other people really can make a difference in how things turn out for you, even in what may seem like such personal and individual areas of your life, like working out, eating well, or doing things that (only) you love. Doing things alone is just harder and likely, much less consistent. I did my first triathlon last weekend, and while I had a great time doing it, I would not have done it without the prompting of my friends who were also doing it, and I also wouldn't have had nearly as good a time had they not been there with me.
I was having a conversation with a naturally WLC minded individual last weekend and she pointed this out: When you take the "I" out of "Illness" and replace it with "We" and you get "Wellness." It takes people, people. Don't ever forget that. And never forget that it goes both ways.
In service of the intentionality that it takes from others to get the kinds of results that you really want out of a challenge like this, we are taking the final Lifestyle category out of the realm of "you" and into the realm of "them."
For the last Lifestyle category, you will awarded yourself your daily Lifestyle point for performing Intentional Acts of Generosity and Kindness to others.

Rules:
- The recipients of your acts do not have to be in the challenge. They can be anyone you come across. But your fellow challengers wouldn't be a bad place to start!
- The act must be intentional to earn the point -- you can't "remember" that you did something nice and award yourself points for that.
- Some examples: Making a phone call or even just sending a supportive text or email to one of your teammates in the challenge, letting someone in traffic into your lane where you would have otherwise sped up, paying for the coffee or bus fare for the person behind you in line, or taking the time to simply let someone know what a difference they make in your life.
Your acts do not have to be grand or expensive. They should simply be intended to have a situation that might have predictably gone one way go another way. They should be intended to leave the world better for your having done them. Often it is the small, seemingly insignificant acts that can change the course of the whole world.
Imagine this: After 1 week of 14,000 people performing acts of generosity, support, and kindness, this body of challengers will be responsible for 100,000 acts that made a difference -- all over the world.

6.34 on burpees/then had only enough smatzo left to get 95lbs ohead = 4.15
i am learning so much from this morning class about teaching!
here are a couple of the things i've learned:
- just because it's written on the board doesn't mean it has been read
- just because everyone says they understand, i should verbally go over the wod in detail anyway....and probably even demo how it will all go right before we start. i never know who's in the bathroom when i am talking about specifics to random athletes.
i take the 5:15 a.m. class for granted because they are such go-getters and self-starters. sorry you guys! i'll try to do better!
also, my apologies to shane that i didn't do that second one on the list above today. but you bet your bottom dollar i will do it tomorrow!
my burpee time was 6:57 and i was able to get 3 lifts in for a max of 125. i should have started heavier but it's better to be safe than sorry. my metcon is still suffering greatly, but it will come back eventually. i'll try to be patient. :)
I think what you're saying Cori is that the 5:15 am class is really "special".
BTW a late happy birthday Cynthia-
Dave-I heard that you discovered the Dollar Store this weekend. It is one of the last true frontiers of a really great value in America. In fact....the Dollar Store may exist for the sole purpose as an outlet for all of Al Gore's books.
I just LOVE the whole life "challenge" this time around. Reminded that we should be kind, generous and of maximum service to others. What a great way to start the week! :)
Oh, and yaaaayyyyyyy burpees!!
Cori, you cannot take blame for my short comings young lady. You wrote it out correctly and I just had a totally differnt intereptation of the workout for whatever reason. It was clear as day for everyone else in the room. I was in fact mad at myself at the end but certainly not you. I am not mad that I didnt score good, I am mad at myself that i short cut the workout.
did the burpees in 557 and lifted 165#. Should have been able to get up higher but I apparently had an extreme issue with reading and comprehension this morning. Maybe I will be blessed with tomorrow and be able to redeem myself.. :)
You can redeem yourself Wednesday....that is my prediction
Felt my burpees were oh so slow (and they were), but I actually dropped 25 seconds from my 100 burpee time back in August. Makes me feel a little better! :-)
tomorrow's wod is:
10 min Handstand walk. Score is feet walked.
Scale - Handstand against the wall. SCore is total seconds in handstand.
then
50 over-the-box jumps for time. 20" box
