Most of the day was slow, with no change for Brad. He still seemed miserable, uncomfortable, and empty inside. Brad's nurse for the day, Diane, was here when he arrived on Monday. She told my mother-in-law that they really didn't think he was going to survive when they brought him in. Hearing this, and seeing his state today, made me think for the first time that Brad might not recover...he might not be okay.
I went on a long walk and spent time praying in the chapel. I had a serious talk with Brad, showing him pictures of Webb and Marlen, reminding him of his family and how much we love him and need him.
He has not eaten since Monday. He cannot tolerate the tube feelings, so they put in a PICC line this afternoon to feed him. His $2100 bag of food and drugs arrived around 8:00pm. Thank you BCBS!
Our friend Jon Delk arrived around 4pm to start physical therapy with Brad. He showed us some very basic movements, but it seemed to really light a fire in brad. He left and Brad's determination started. He worked to move his arms for the next 2 hours. He has a little more difficulty with his feet. The highlight of my night was when Brad slowly lifted his arm straight up into the air. The game was on....I am convined he was giving me a WARRRR EAGLE. Thankfully he fell asleep before the game ended.
For a day that was so discouraging, it ended really well.
Thank you, Aunt Sally, for spending your birthday with Lucie, Steve, & me in the ICU waiting room. I needed the company and the wine:)
i had to stop so many times though. to drink, to catch my breath, to stretch (my calves were so tight), to cool down (my face felt like it was melting), to pee, to talk to cori :). i also had to walk up a couple hills. i stopped my watch when i took breaks or walked to make sure i actually jogged a total of 10 miles. i finished the run in 1:39:38, but my watch was stopped for a total of almost 30 minutes. yeah...30 minutes worth of breaks. like i said, it was rough.
i got home and took an ice bath in hopes of it helping my tight calves. we'll see.
Strictly followed Coaches "orders" today and rested- well, actively rested :) went on a family hike at Hurricane Creek (near Cullman airport), and crawled through the "Twilight Tunnel". it was AWESOME! Oh, and found 2 perfectly placed rock wall placements and did a pull up....or two. :)
Yep-we are busted! We had a cheat meal Saturday night. It was my fault! I will say we have done well through this challenge. Almost over!
This time of year is about to get challenging for me personally. My office becomes a food festival starting a couple of weeks before Halloween and it only gets worse every year. I'm not being critical, I am only speaking the truth. Last time I walked through the building and counted there are 7/10 people are overweight. I don't know if this is specific to the Southern states or if this is the standard now. People just love to eat. I know I do.
Drew and I have talked before about the power of sugar and the addiction once you start. Here is a good read on it.

10 mile slog
covered the distance in a very pathetic time domain.
double unders, wallballs, bbq and a reeses pb flurry the day before a long run is probably not the best idea in the world.
10 miles.
one of the worst runs ever.

i'm so glad that run is behind me!
Glad you two finished! That doesn't even sound like it would be healthy.
Cori...Nate wants to know when pb reeses flurries got to be paleo??

Happy Labor Day all! Thanks for the article Dave - and here is one about stepping back when injured that I think many of us can relate to:)
