Brad's lungs continue to improve. Thank you for all the prayers. They have been heard. He has been off the BiPAP machine since this morning and is breathing with a regular oxygen mask. He has been teetering dangerously close to having to go back on the BiPAP machine. As I sit here with him now, the nurse is giving him a few minutes to regulate his oxygen levels, but has threatened to put him back on the machine. Though his lungs are improving, they are still our main source of concern. Much of the issue relating to his lungs is that he is not strong enough to clear the secretions from his throat. From what i understand, this is a neurological issue. His stomach is also very quiet. The doctors are trying to give him medicine to wake his stomach. That is the next issue we will have to tackle.
I was able to leave the hospital around 4:30 to pick up the kids from Daycare. It was nice to escape the reality of the hospital for 2 hours to spend some much needed time with the kids. I had a really hard time leaving them to come back to the hospital, but felt equally as guilty for leaving Brad. He can't talk, and I am his voice. He is in so much pain, so uncomfortable, and is also extremely agitated. He gets very frustrated when the nurses can't understand what he needs....as would I.
I got in "in trouble" today for taking pictures of Brad in the ICU. I explained to the nurse that I don't plan to show them to any one, accept for Brad. I am holding them for next year when he tries to go base jumping or sky diving....hopefully he can find another way to satisfy his sense of adventure....
Posted a message on the Hawley's Caring Bridge page... They can take whatever pics they want!
Anyway... 5k today... 24:51
Was fun running with a van behind us. I had to dodge one 18 wheeler, a fire truck passed us and one idiot shined his bright lights in my face for some reason...All in all, a great run.
I'm looking forward to this. Looking to finish in 24:00...we shall see.
Way to go Stacey! I'd run a 5K if the follow van had cake donuts and coffee (Ethiopian Yergocheff Cochere with half and half) and would stop every 1K for a breather.
You are a terriffic advocate Stacey...I love it! If I ever have to spend any time in a hospital you will be my second phone call - first call will be for the donut and coffee van.
I will definitely be "finished" in 24:00; in fact, probably less than 24:00. The only problem is I will not yet have run 3.1 miles.
Carefully scribbling down Bill's coffee fav coffee for when I want some help building a box jump or two....
what an awesome coach to follow in a van! :) your coaches AND your personal running support team! haha!
Having the van out there was great and I was most appreciative. Particularly for a "first time on course" and also because it was dark.

Good time Sheena! Did you and Stacey run this together?
4 mile run w/ human's best friend! While it wasn't my fastest,& we didn't have a van to follow us, it's always great to get out for a run w/ my lil buddy :-)
